The Ivy Adventure.
Ivy woke up on the forest floor. Her head throbbed, and the world seemed to spin. She tried to get up but knew it was a bad idea as soon as she started.
She lay back down and tried to think of the day before.
Nothing. She couldn’t remember anything. Ivy couldn’t remember her family or where she lived. She couldn’t even remember how she’d gotten here.
For some reason, Ivy could remember what the sun was but not what it looked like. Same with everything else; her mind was dark. She could only remember her name.
“Ivy. My name is Ivy Brooks.” She repeated it over and over, worried she would forget it.
She looked up now. With out realizing it, Ivy had gotten up and started walking.
She drew a breath. The trees were hundreds of feet tall, and the canopy was so thick that it blocked out all light from above. But it wasn’t dark under the trees. Moss on the side of trees glowed different shades of blue and green. There were mushrooms through out the grass that glowed shades of red, pink, purple, and yellow. There were even some white ones.
She took this all in then paused; something wasn’t right. Things didn’t glow like this, or at least she thought they didn’t.
Thunk.
Ivy looked at the tree closest to her. There was now a long, black arrow resting in its trunk. Her blood ran cold. She looked around but couldn’t see anyone.
She heard the thrum of a bowstring. Ivy dropped to the ground right before she felt the whoosh of another arrow go right over her head. It was way too close for comfort.
Without trying to find the unseen archer, she ran. Not knowing where she was going, she ran as fast as could to get there.
Soon her sides were heaving. Ivy stopped and turned to see if someone was following her.
No one. Ivy continued walking in the same direction. Soon her breath was steady once more.
There seemed to be something up ahead. Was it sunlight marking the end of the forest? Ivy began to run once more.
When she stepped into it, she had to close her eyes. It was much brighter than the light the mushrooms and moss had provided.
Suddenly the sun was blotted out. Ivy looked up to see a huge… bird? Then it was diving toward her.
Ivy tried to roll out of the way at the last moment, but the trick had clearly been used on the bird before because it moved with her and grabbed her waist. Ivy was so focused on getting free that she completely missed the person sitting astride the bird.
“Let her go and see what she does,” they whispered to the bird. Careful so Ivy wouldn’t hear the sound.
The animal uncurled its humongous talons and let Ivy fall through the treetops and hit the ground. It dived after her to see if she was dead.
